Taxes! Get your Taxes!

So, people just LOVE hearing about and discussing TAXES. Martin sent me the following post:

It was offered as an alternative to the income tax (ANYTHING...almost is better than the income tax).

So the question is: What is the BEST tax method this country could use to gain the revenue needed for it's activities (good or bad, big or small)????
